With this being a Presidential Election year, we are again preparing for an increased demand for absentee and mail-in ballots. One of our initiatives that we started at the primary in April was that we have purchased a ballot drop box (see photo) that was placed in the lobby of the County Administration Building, 272 N. Second St., Chambersburg. This allowed voters to drop off their voted ballot without going through the metal detector and walking back the hallway to the Voter Registration Office.
The new drop box will be right inside the front door and, while there will be security officers at the metal detector, we would like to have volunteers man the drop box to answer any questions and ensure that the ballot is signed and dated appropriately before it is deposited in the ballot drop box.
We plan to start manning the drop box on Monday, October 7 and will continue each day up through Election Day on November 5th. There will be two four-hour shifts each day with one being 8:30 am – 12:30 pm and the second one being 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm. If someone is unable to do a four hour shift, we would be agreeable to assigning them a two hour shift.
If anyone is interested in volunteering their time for one or more shifts, please either email our Office Assistant Rose Stone at rmstone@franklincountypa.gov or contact her by phone at (717) 264-4125 Ext. 22063. We plan to have a small table and chair available for the volunteers and so they will be able to bring along an activity to do in their down time as well as drinks/snacks if they desire.
We thank you in advance for your consideration of our request.
