Fighting alongside you all was the honor of a lifetime

As it swept across the country, the Trump wave crashed and broke here – R+0.2 in Franklin, D+0.4 in Adams, D+0.9 in Cumberland. As of last count, we had 539 more votes cast for the Democratic nominee in Franklin County than in 2020 – despite a Democratic decline nationwide.

Our mission was to ‘Lose Small’ so that Pittsburgh and Philly could win big. Here – 25 miles west of where the 20th Maine Infantry were ordered to fix bayonets – you held the line.

That the battle was lost should not diminish the sweat and sacrifice you gave for the cause. You all are forever a part of my team and a part of this community.

Much will be written in the coming weeks about why we lost. I’m still working through my own thoughts on the matter. But what I do know is how we win – and that is in the grassroots.

Our state and local races matter far more to our everyday lives than who sits in the White House, and good local governance is the strongest defense against corrupt national despotism. 

Let Democrats in every city, county, and state build the kind of nation we canvassed for from the ground up. Ask anyone from Franklin – we made real progress here. Step by step, we will turn this tide back. But we need to keep fighting.
